About

Noorulain Khawaja is an Emmy-nominated on-air reporter and multimedia journalist for Spectrum News/NY1 News, based in New York City. She is an enterprise reporter at heart but also covers general assignments. During her time at NY1, she has covered a wide range of topics, including how the Trump administration’s immigration policies affect New Yorkers, as well as high-profile stories such as the Sean “Diddy” Combs trial, King Charles’s visit to New York, and pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University. She also contributes to the channel’s political coverage, including its flagship program, “Inside City Hall,” such as on Election Night when Zohran Mamdani won — becoming the first Muslim mayor to run the city.

Noorulain won this year’s Deadline Club award for investigative reporting for her report that went inside 26 Federal Plaza, one of the city’s immigration courts, to expose the chaos of ICE arrests and the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

She holds a master’s degree in political and international affairs reporting from Columbia University and has spent much of her journalism career reporting and producing across the U.S. and abroad.
